I carry four different bagel flavors down the sidewalk because I didn’t know which kind Evette might like. I left early this morning, as I had a call from one of the managers running my wineries in Italy and, well, his conversations are never fast. So, seeing my power has been acting up since Evette had zapped me, I didn’t risk popping over with my ability in case I ended up Zeus-knew-where. I did it the human way through Skype to sort out the issues with the new batches of wooden barrels damaged in shipping. It took a lot longer than I anticipated. Hours to deal with the mess. And now I have to make it up to Evette for vanishing on her like that. I never do that to women, even if it’s a one-time event, I will show them respect.

If any of the other gods saw me acting this way they would think I’d gone soft. Even vote me out of the top twelve Olympian Gods, and I’ll be damned if I let Hestia take my spot. But none of them have this spiderweb crisscrossing across their chest and hindering their power either. And after last night the mark has gone down some more, but nowhere as much as it should have. Especially considering we went all night, and my beauty had no problems keeping up with me.

Having sex with Evette was amazing and I had felt a burst of my power return. Still not back to my full force, though. But making love to her is the cure. I’m sure of it.

Several women do double-takes as I pass down the sidewalk through town on my way to Evette’s cottage home. It’s late lunch and the streets are starting to clog up with people shopping. Figure I have time as Evette mentioned today was her day off from the little herbal shop which closes on Mondays.

I whistle a tune that Apollo used to sing about the sun winking through the clouds. Maybe I’ll hang around while Evette works. I want to learn more about her and how she came into her power. Though part of me fears if the other gods get wind of what she did to me, they’ll remove the threat. And I don’t want any harm to come to her. She’s mine.

My feet stumble over a crack in the sidewalk at that proclamation and I shake my head. What if this is just an infatuation and a means to an end of getting myself back to full power? You’d be surprised how the unconscious mind can work against you.

When I turn onto the road to Evette’s cottage, a tingle hits my chest at the thought of seeing her again. Of slipping into her bed and hope she’s still sleeping since not much sleeping happened last night.

“Let me go,” Evette, panic stricken, yells.

My gut hardens, and I lift my gaze instantly to her front yard. She’s facing a man who has a hold of her arm and is dragging her toward a beige Dodge Ram truck with oversized tires parked on the curb.
